FAQ
What is ImageRights?
ImageRights is a service that uses powerful Image Recognition Technology to help you locate and identify where your images are being used online.
Who should use ImageRights?
ImageRights is designed for professionals that earn income from their images and need to understand how their images are being used and to help protect against their unauthorized use. ImageRights users include photographers, illustrators, visual artists, image libraries and publishers.
Why should I use ImageRights?
Millions of images are taken and reused on the web without authorization or a license fee. ImageRights helps you find where your images are being used on the internet. For less than a penny per image, you can monitor and protect the use of your images. That's image insurance you can't afford to miss.
Also, if you are a publisher and need to protect the unauthorized use of images you have licensed, having the ImageRights service will help fulfill your due diligence obligations.
How does it work?
You register with ImageRights and upload your images to our system. Your work is done, it's that easy. ImageRights visits business, blogs, and news and media sites 24/7 every day of the year, bringing in a million+ images per month. We look at the images from these sites and compare those images to all of the images of our image professionals. We use powerful image recognition technology to match any images we found to those of our image pros. When we find an image match, you will receive a report that shows your original image, the image we found (which might be altered) and the URL where we found the image. You will receive a report weekly, whether we find a match or not.
Can you match my images even if they have been altered?
Our powerful Image Recognition Technology makes accurate matches even if your work has moderate to significant modifications such as being flipped, rotated, colors changed or some cropping. We don't use meta data to find your image uses because meta data can be stripped from an image.
What is the pricing for ImageRights?
ImageRights pricing is based on how many images you keep in your ImageRights account for use monitoring. Our introductory level is only $4.95 per month for up to 250 images. $9.95 per month for up to 1,000 images. $19.95 per month for up to 3,000 images and $34.95 per month for up to 10,000 images. There is a one-time set up fee of $10 for each account. If you have more than 10k images, email us for a quote. sales@imagesrights.com
Will you use my images for any purpose other than to locate my image use on the internet?
No. Your images reside as low res files in our system solely for the purpose of helping to protect your rights ownership. In our terms of service, you grant us the license to store these images for the limited purpose of providing our service. You maintain ownership and all other rights to the images.
Does ImageRights take a fee if I license my work as a result of finding an unauthorized use using your service?
ImageRights is not in the business of licensing images. Any resolution between your images and a found image would be between you and the identified user, except in the case of ImageRights Recovery where you allow us to pursue image recovery on your behalf. We will be introducing ImageRights Recovery as a new feature Q1, 2010.
Can site visitors view and copy my images off of the ImageRights site?

But you can upload files up to 4mb in sizes.

Yes, but please make sure your images are at minimum 300 pixels wide on the widest side of the image and have a resolution of at least 72 dpi.
Is there an easy way to quickly convert all of my files to 800px, 96 dpi, all at once?
Yes. There are many image converters available that will change the size, resolution and file type all with one command, and you can convert hundreds or even a thousand images at one time. We like Free Image Converter because it's simple, works well and it's free. www.freeimageconverter.com. When you go to their site, scroll down to "Download Free Image Converter" and install it on your computer. Then copy all of the files you want to convert to a new folder. Make sure you copy them, and not just transfer them. Make sure to keep your original size files in a separate folder. Next, open Free Image Converter and select: File, Add Folder. Then select: Convert, and if you are already using jpegs, use Quick Convert. The default for Quick Convert is 800 x 600px, quality = 70. These settings are perfect. If you are converting both horizontal and vertical images, the vertical images will convert by default to 450 x 600, which is perfect for us too.
How many images can I upload at one time?
You can upload a few thousand images at a time using our simple flash uploader. The smaller the images, the faster the upload. Our ideal image size is 800 pixels max on the widest side of the image and 96 dpi although you made upload almost any size file, but it will take much longer to upload large files. If you have 10K or more images, pls contact us for ftp upload info. sales@imagerights.com

If there are billions of images online and ImageRights doesn't scan billions of images, how effective can it be?
ImageRights focuses on pulling in images from the internet off of sites that not only may violate a copyright, they also have the means to pay for a license fee if caught. So we concentrate on business, blogs and new and media sites. While there are billions of images sites like Facebook and Flickr, you are unlikely to recover monetary gain from users of these sites.
Do you have new features planned for ImageRights?
Yes, we have a number of new and exciting features planned for the first quarter of 2010 and beyond.
New features include the ability to add URL's of sites that you would like for us to monitor. This is very empowering for image pros.
Other new features include a recovery service where we help you recover licensing fees for legal judgements on a contingency basis.
Is ImageRights a registry?
No, ImageRights is not a registry and will never be a registry.
